Indaba is a video-based monitoring and evaluation toolkit. Communities film their own M&E footage instead of being interviewed about it. It was developed through PhD fieldwork at Open Lab, Newcastle University, and is now promoted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) as a standard M&E method across its 192 country chapters.

Most M&E tools ask communities to report upward, in a format and language set by the funder. Indaba reverses that. The toolkit is built around what is easy to film with a phone, in the language and pace of the people using it.
